Epsom & Ewell Foodbank PleaFoodBank

We are delighted to let you know that we did get all the hampers, gifts and food parcels delivered in time for Christmas, including a few very last minute requests. We have received many messages of thanks so we know that our efforts did make a big difference to many local people. Thank you so much for your continued generosity and support.

Whilst we had a vast amount of food donated in the lead up to Christmas we do find ourselves short of a few specific items. As previously mentioned it costs us to store any overstock of items so we would appreciate it if only the following items were donated at this time -

  • Rice pudding URGENT
  • Instant mash
  • UHT milk - semi skimmed and full fat only
  • Longlife fruit juice

Update from Fr Bill

Well firstly, I hope you are all keeping safe and well and that some of our Parishioners may have even had their Covid Vaccination by now!

Not surprisingly, our Mass attendance this week has been very low, but it is encouraging to see that some of you feel that the Church is a safe place for you to come and worship and celebrate Mass.

I have just received confirmation from Bishop Richard that the Government has confirmed that there will be no blanket closure of places of worship.  Therefore, for the time being, we will continue to celebrate Mass as we currently do, weekdays at 10.00a.m.:Saturday at 5.30p.m. and Sunday at 10.30a.m. and 5.30p.m.  I will keep the situation under review, taking into account any further updates from the Bishop and the Government.

However, there a few stipulations that you need to be aware of in addition to signing in to the Church and sanitising your hands:

-    you must maintain good social distancing of 2 metres, at all times when in the Church;

-    once you have been shown to your seat, you must not move from your seat until asked to exit the Church by a Steward;

-    you must not mingle before or after the   service, inside the Church or outside of the Church and you should disperse immediately on exiting;

We will be regularly reminding you of the above issues to ensure that the Church remains a Covid-secure environment.

God Bless, and keep safe
Fr Bill, Fr Ruslan, Sr Margarite and Sr Fionnuala

Supporting the Bereaved Course 2021

Around the Diocese many parishes are developing a bereavement befriending team, to accompany and support those experiencing grief and loss. They provide a vital service where people with a common faith can walk with others on this painful journey.

Do you feel that you are being called to this Ministry? Do you have a good ear for listening? Are you able to empathise with people? Are you able to maintain confidentiality?

If you feel drawn to supporting fellow parishioners, please speak to your Parish Priest about being considered for the Diocesan Supporting the Bereaved Course.

A commitment to attending every session is needed (Eight Tuesdays across January to March 2021).

If you wish to speak to someone about what the course entails and to register your interest in joining the programme please call Rev Deacon Simon South, Diocesan Marriage & Family Life Project Worker, on 07415 306222 or email on simon.south@abdiocese.org.uk.

Anti-Modern Slavery

18th October was Anti-Slavery Sunday. The diocese has been steadily building up its campaign against modern slavery, and in conjunction with this we have issued the first of what we hope to be regular updates on the current progress. The newsletter is on the new diocesan website and can be found here

Our hope is to extend the number of people across the diocese who are aware of the tragedy of modern slavery that exists in our communities and we would ask you to especially make people aware in your parish. We hope as time progresses to be able to offer awareness sessions and would be keen to hear from you if you would like to host an event to raise awareness in your area at some point in the future. Please let Tessa Ricketts know on tessa.ricketts@abdiocese.org.uk Anyone else that you find who is interested in becoming a supporter and receiving regular updates can also contact Tessa to sign up. We welcome any suggestions you might have to help raise awareness across our diocese. Thank you.

David Farey - Chairman of the Diocesan Steering Group on Modern Slavery.

Calling all Young Adults of the Diocese (20-30 somethings)

Before the current restrictions, our Youth and Young Adults' Advisor had plenty of big plans for helping you get to know other Catholics of a similar age, to form communities where you are free to be yourself, to explore your faith, to grow in friendship, and to be a safe place for you to realise your Catholic identity.

However, this has all had to go on hold. We cannot have a Prosecco and Praise night and remain Covid secure! What we would like to do is invite anyone who is interested to join a focus group. This group will meet virtually to discuss the needs and desires of young adults in the Church, and, if you would like, be involved in coming up with some creative ways to meet those needs.

If this sounds like a project you would like to be a part of, please contact the Youth Service Secretary Rosie at rosie.read@abdiocese.org.uk or 01293 651161
